Egyptian forward, Mohamed Salah said he is focused on the collective goals of his team, emphasizing his commitment to winning the Premier League with Liverpool rather than pursuing individual honours.
Mohamed Salah played an instrumental role in Liverpool’s impressive 5-0 triumph over West Ham on Sunday. In an interview with Sky Sports after the game, the Egyptian star stressed that he is not prioritizing winning the Ballon d’Or.
“I’m not thinking about the Ballon d’Or. My priority is to win the Premier League,” Salah said. “I’m dedicated to doing my best for the team to secure a trophy. While other teams seek to close the gap, we must remain humble and keep our focus.”
Under the guidance of Arne Slot, Liverpool are making a strong push towards a remarkable 20th English top-flight title, widening their lead at the top of the table to eight points.
The performance at the London Stadium showcased the team’s strength, as they recorded their 23rd victory in 27 matches across all competitions this season.
Luis Diaz initiated the scoring in the first half, followed by a standout moment from Salah, who skillfully assisted Cody Gakpo for the second goal. Salah also marked his milestone by scoring his 20th goal of the season shortly before halftime, solidifying Liverpool’s dominance.
In the second half, the Reds continued to impress, with Trent Alexander-Arnold scoring from long range and Diogo Jota adding the fifth goal with another assist from Mohamed Salah.
Coach Slot expressed immense satisfaction with his team’s performance, saying, “I thoroughly enjoyed it because such moments of ease don’t come around often.”
This commanding victory arrives amidst discussions surrounding the futures of Salah, Alexander-Arnold, and captain Virgil van Dijk, all of whom may be able to negotiate with foreign clubs on free transfers in January.
Nevertheless, Salah remained resolute, asserting his dedication to Liverpool’s title aspirations. The Egyptian said, “My sole focus is on helping Liverpool win the league, and I want to be a part of that journey.”
