Manchester United fans labelled Erik ten Hag “disgraceful” for picking Marcus Rashford ahead of Amad Diallo for their crunch clash with Liverpool. Despite scoring for United in their 2-1 loss at Brighton last weekend, manager Ten Hag dropped Amad to the bench and Alejandro Garnacho took his spot on the right wing for the Liverpool clash at Old Trafford on Sunday. Despite Amad and Garnacho having more goal contributions this season, Rashford once again retained his place in the starting line-up.....CONTINUE READING THE ARTICLE FROM THE SOURCE

Many United fans have taken aim at the ex-Ajax boss, with some saying he “doesn’t have the b*lls” to drop Rashford.

@utdHarryy tweeted: “It’s an absolute disgrace Amad isn’t starting. Rashford is a big big problem. Regardless how bad he plays he always starts. Needs to be a priority to get rid next summer.”

@dujardinn_ commented on X: “Ten Hag benched Amad because he doesn’t have the b*lls to bench Rashford. Garnacho on the Right to accommodate Rashford on the left. There is no balance in our attack. Martinez is the only left-footed player in that line-up.”

@sulkfenomeno wrote: “Amad has been our best winger and player of the month and still gets benched. Garnacho has been diabolical every time he’s come off the bench yet gets a start, the less said about Rashford the better. Absolutely disgraceful stuff. This club doesn’t play you on merit. All politics.”

@markgoldbridge posted: “Amad PTOM, scored last week, scored against Liverpool last season and he’s benched??? Make it make sense was Rashford’s been terrible this season. The favouritism needs to be justified today otherwise Ten Hag is heaping more pressure on himself.”

And @AdamManred added: “ETH dropping Amad … he was itching to drop him, it was so blatantly obvious. This manager’s sucking the fun out of every game.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Prior to the visit of Arne Slot’s Liverpool, Garnacho had scored one goal in the Community Shield and bagged one Premier League assist, while Amad had a goal to his name, too. Rashford is yet to get off the mark and his performances have not been as impressive as the aforementioned duo. Following an underwhelming season last term, where he scored just eight goals and bagged six assists, Rashford is under pressure to recapture the form he showed in 2022-23. If the England man – who has lost his place in the international side in recent months – doesn’t rediscover his best level, his place in the starting line-up will increasingly come into question.

WHAT NEXT?

The Premier League will have a pause for the international break before returning in mid-September. United travel to Southampton on September 14, whereas Liverpool host Nottingham Forest on the same day.
