He condemned the recent attack on their party’s Secretariat, describing it as a calculated effort to undermine the party’s leadership in Rivers State. He expressed deep concern for their safety as he claimed that the protest in Rivers State had deviated from its original focus on economic grievances and now veering into the realm of political persecution. He noted that the protesters were deliberately dissuaded from targeting the residence of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, due to the heavy security presence.
He said in an interview with TVC From 3:45, “The attack on our Secretariat was clearly premeditated. It was an attack on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, It was also an attack that was planned over time to diminish the party and as well as the leadership of the party in Rivers State. And clearly, we see the hand of Rivers State Government in all this issue. Fubara is the only governor in the South-South who openly supported the protest.
And the governor who is an accountant by training and who also is the governor of the state and he understands the destruction that will be created by the actions and activities of the protest. The protest became very chaotic and violent and a point. So the governor shouldn’t have done that in the first place. Right now, we are scared for our lives because the target of this protest in Rivers State has steered away from what was supposed to do with economic crisis to political witch-hunting. The protesters were discouraged from attacking the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike’s residence in Port Harcourt because of the level of security that were around those areas.
