As part of the operational effort in a bid to eradicate crude oil theft in the Niger Delta Region, the Nigerian military on Thursday has urged for more transparency by the by International Oil Companies operating in the region IOCs, and deployment of accurate metering system.MDirector, Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba made the appeal in Abuja while briefing media on the troops operations in six geopolitical zones of the country urging for cooperation of stakeholders in the oil sector as well as cooperation of the local communities.....CONTINUE READING THE ARTICLE FROM THE SOURCE

General Buba emphasized that the military will enforce the monitoring of the prosecution of culprits perpetrating crude oil theft. This is recognised as critical in the fight against crude oil theft.

He noted that during the month of August 2024, troops of Operation DELTA SAFE arrested 54 persons involved in crude oil theft and denied the oil theft of 3,776,500 litres of crude oil, 800,800 litres of AGO, 100 litres of DPK and 27,500 litres of PMS.

Furthermore, troops recovered 163 assorted ammunition and destroyed 94 wooden boats as well as 339 illegal refining sites.

Others recoveries made include over 3,776,500 litres of stolen crude oil, 801,800 litres of illegally refined AGO, 100 litres of DPK and 27,500 litres of PMS amongst other item.

It would be recall that in July the Chairman of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote recently accused the IOCs of manipulating prices and obstructing crude oil supply to the refinery and also, local refiners supported Dangote’s claim, prompting the House of Representatives to launch an investigation.

The Nigerian military therefore assured that troops are intensifying operations in the North West, North Central, South East and South South. Our focus is to defeat and dismantle the threat posed by these terrorist.
