According NBS Television, the situation escalated when police fired teargas to disperse the angry residents, resulting in chaos and the arrest of the Kira Municipality MP along with six other residents.

The arrested individuals have reportedly been taken to Kira Police Station.

In a statement made shortly after his release, Ssemujju expressed his frustration and commitment to his constituents: “If I’m an MP, and I cannot speak for the people I represent, then why am I an MP?”

He emphasized that his arrest was unwarranted, stating, “The fact that they are not charging me for anything tells you that I was not committing any crime.”

Ssemujju also highlighted the irony of the situation, pointing out that many of the police officers involved in his arrest reside in Kasokoso.

“These policemen who were roughing me up this morning, many of them live in Kasokoso. We have a duty as a State to protect the people,” he remarked.
