The company confirmed this development in a notice to subscribers on Thursday, August 1, a copy sighted by Business Post.

“Customers with older decoder models will miss out on their favourite channels and any new channels launched in the future.

“We encourage you to upgrade to enhance your viewing experience by purchasing a new decoder from our range of decoder options,” a part of the message read.

MultiChoice explained that it is taking this step as part of its dedication to providing “customers with an enhanced entertainment experience by offering high-quality, customer-focused technology that delivers exceptional value.”

“As such, the enhanced technology upgrades will make your decoder not compatible to receive certain channels,” it stated.

The popular pay-TV platform listed Africa Magic Family, Akwaaba Magic, Al Jazeera, BBC News, CBeebies, Day Star, Discovery Family, Disney Junior, Euronews, JimJam, Maisha Magic, and M-Net Movies 4 as the affected channels.

Others include NatGeo Wild, Nickelodeon, Pearl Magic, Real Time, ROK 2, Telemundo, Televista, Trybe, and Zee World.

The company assured that subscribers using the new HD decoder will enjoy HD content on SuperSport, documentaries and movie channels with high picture quality out of the 27+ HD channels DStv provides (this is based on the packages they use).

It added that customers will keep on enjoying their favourite content without interruption, and will experience the best way of receiving decoder notifications and important messaging.
