Previously, NiDCOM had filed a petition with Patrick Brown, Mayor of Brampton, Canada, concerning these alarming allegations.

According to the petition, Sunnberger has been accused of threatening to poison and kill individuals from the Yoruba and Edo ethnic groups.

In a letter dated August 28, 2024, addressed to the mayor, Dabiri-Erewa highlighted that Sunnberger, a disability support worker in Brampton, made these disturbing comments.

Dabiri-Erewa expressed concern over the potential danger Sunnberger might pose to the vulnerable individuals she supports and emphasized the need for a thorough investigation.

Dabiri-Erewa recently reiterated the urgency of the situation, stating, “As long as I am Chair of NiDCOM and diaspora issues are reported to us, we will address them. Nigerians in Canada are already engaging with the relevant authorities on this matter.”

A source informed SaharaReporters that Canadian police have summoned Sunnberger in response to her purported threats captured in a viral video.

The video reportedly shows Sunnberger advocating for the poisoning of food and water sources to harm Yoruba and Edo people and encouraging Igbo people to adopt aggressive measures against these communities.

Additionally, it was earlier reported that the Nigerian House of Representatives has formally petitioned His Excellency James Christoff, Canada’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, regarding the issue.

The petition, filed on August 28, 2024, was submitted by Biodun Omoleye, Chairman of the Nigeria-Canada Parliamentary Friendship Group, and Tochukwu Chinedu Okere, Chairman of the House Committee on Diaspora Matters.

Despite the backlash, Sunnberger has publicly denied any arrest or impending deportation. In a recent TikTok live session, she dismissed the claims, asserting, “Someone sent me a message saying I’ve been arrested and am about to be deported. With my passport? I am a Canadian citizen. Nonsense!”
