Obaseki Family Defects to APC, Endorses Okpebholo for Edo GovernorIn a stunning political development, the prominent Obaseki family, traditionally aligned with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has announced their decision to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, in the upcoming Edo State gubernatorial election.....CONTINUE READING THE ARTICLE FROM THE SOURCE

During a massive rally in Oredo LGA, Osaro Obaseki, a key figure within the family, revealed the reasons behind their dramatic shift. “We have stood by our brother, Governor Godwin Obaseki, since 2016. However, his administration has failed to deliver on the promises made to the people of Edo, and we can no longer support him,” Osaro stated, expressing the family’s disillusionment.

The Obaseki family, numbering over 200 members, voiced their dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs in Edo State, particularly the perceived neglect of crucial infrastructure and the lack of respect shown to traditional institutions, including the Oba of Benin.

“We believe that Senator Monday Okpebholo has the vision and commitment to turn things around for the better. His track record and dedication to the people of Edo have convinced us that he is the right leader to guide our state forward,” Osaro Obaseki added.

The family’s defection to the APC is seen as a significant blow to the PDP, given the Obaseki name’s longstanding influence in Edo politics. The APC, buoyed by this new support, is expected to intensify its campaign efforts, with Okpebholo emerging as a formidable contender in the race for the governorship.

This unexpected move by the Obaseki family could reshape the political landscape in Edo State, as the APC seeks to capitalize on the momentum gained from this high-profile defection.
