The deceased, 40-year-old Rafiat Sheriff, had instructed her daughter to prepare dinner. The incident occurred when the young girl attempted to light the gas cylinder, resulting in a catastrophic explosion that engulfed their home in flames.

Confirming the incident on Sunday, Ogun State police spokesperson Omolola Odutola stated, “The incident occurred last night when the mother told her seven-year-old daughter to cook. The girl was attempting to light up the gas cylinder when the entire house went up in flames.”

The explosion resulted in the immediate deaths of Rafiat Sheriff and her daughter Asisat. Two other girls, including another child of the deceased, are currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.
