A two-time former governorship aspirant in Edo State, High Chief Jacob Egietseme Idinye, says calls for a probe of Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State is embarrassingly shameful, stressing that it reflects how low and thoughtless the opposition had become in the state. In a statement Idinye released on Sunday, he said:
“The sponsored diatribe and tirade by some hired political jobbers in Edo State who are calling for the probe of the Governor of Edo State; Godwin Obaseki can only be regarded as highly despicable, unjustified, embarrassingly shameful and uncalled-for, it is also a reflection of reflects how low and thoughtless the opposition APC has become in the state,” the statement read.
The statement continues: “No doubt, this is one of the series of intentionally planned persecution and political assaults on the Governor in order to wickedly rubbish his rich and enviable credentials and pedigree,” it read.
“All the campaign of calumny against Governor Obaseki will continue to fail in the face of logic as the man lives in the minds of the people. The report which suggested that there was an outrage in Edo North over a purported claim made by the Edo North Youth Alliance (ENYA) about 4.5 billion naira scam and calling for accountability from the Governor is not just baseless but irresponsible for the faceless group of making such spurious allegation. APC has penchant for coming up with a different lie every day of the week and this will help to deepen their defeat in the September 21 poll.
“It will only be an act of feigning ignorance or mischief if anyone living in Edo State is oblivion of the tremendous and daring pro-people policies and program Governor Obaseki designed and implemented during his two-term stay in office,” the statement read.
The Etsako born politician and media guru, added:
“The majority of youths and residents in Edo State in particular and Nigeria in general, know better than to be involved or believe in concocted, unintelligently manufactured and cheap falsehood by the enemies who feel perpetually threatened by either Obaseki’s achievements or his discreetness and calmness in the face of persecution and barrage of lies against him.
“APC did nothing in Edo North when they held sway in power, today under Governor Godwin Obaseki there has been monumental achievements some of them are, installation of the 33kva step down Akharuma village Auchi, Construction of Mechanic site road Auchi, Construction of Campus 2 road Auchi, Double side drainage and construction of Kennedy to Abu Inu Umoru street Auchi, Construction of Igbe Road with underground drainage.
“Others are reconstruction of Public Field Road Auchi, Reconstruction of Public Field to a mini Stadium Auchi, Construction of ICE Road Auchi, Construction of Iyatse Road Auchi, Construction of Mariam Abubakar street of Akpekpe secondary school road Auchi, Upgrade of General hospital to Edo State University teaching hospitals Auchi, Revamping of Veterinary hospital Auchi, Building a pamarnet Site for immigration Auchi, Revamping of fertilizer company Auchi, Construction of Akilaya road Auchi, Construction of dam beside Matric and NNPC gas station Auchi.”
“The Governor’s focus was to bring about development and improved life to the people living and working in Edo State. The great and principled people of Edo will not forget in a hurry the Governor who served and still serving them profoundly, diligently and with a soul.
“Obaseki is the first Governor in Nigeria that pays salaries at the right time and as of when due. As a leader who is labour-friendly, he increased the salaries of civil servants from N40,000 to N70,000. Similarly, Obaseki cleared 3 years salary arrears of what APC government owed civil servants in the state. APC should tell us what they want to do for Edo people and stop peddling falsehoods and rumors, they should also stop devisive comments and campaign of calumny.”
Idinye maintained that the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), in the September governorship poll, Asue Ighodalo, would win and succeed Obaseki, while also assuring that that Ighodalo would do better as Governor because he possessed intellect, integrity, and discipline.
