Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo, a socio-cultural organization representing the interests of Igbo communities, has reaffirmed its recognition of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu as the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), dismissing Simon Ekpa’s claim to leadership.
According to Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene, Vice President of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo Worldwide, the organization does not recognize Simon Ekpa as a legitimate leader, viewing him instead as a “Nollywood star” due to his self-description as a content creator.

Okeke-Ogene emphasized that Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo’s primary concern is the release of Nnamdi Kanu, who has been consistent in his leadership of IPOB. He also urged the Southeast governors to enhance security measures and collaborate more effectively to improve crime-fighting efficiency and sustainability.
The organization also clarified that there is no leadership crisis within Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo following the death of its late President, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu. Okeke-Ogene explained that the position of the president is zoned to Imo State, which will complete the slot allocated to the state.
