The Abia State local government elections have come to a close, and the results are in: Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) has emerged victorious, securing 15 out of 17 chairmanship posts. This impressive win leaves the ruling Labour Party (LP) without a single seat. The Young Progressives Party (YPP) managed to snag the remaining two posts in Ugwunagbo and Osisioma Ngwa.

According to George Chima, chairman of the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC), the elections were a resounding success, with over 12 political parties participating – a feat the commission hasn’t achieved in recent times ¹. Chima praised the peaceful nature of the elections, thanking security agencies and political parties for their cooperation.
