The North-East Multi-Sectoral Crisis Recovery Project (MCRP), in partnership with Nazwala Integrated Services, has successfully held a two-day training workshop for agricultural cooperative members focusing on sustainability practices in Adamawa State. The event took place at the Admiral Nyako Training Center within the state secretariat complex in Jimeta, Yola.

Mr. Ahmed Babale Mirchaulum, the team leader of the initiative, emphasized that the MCRP aims to equip agricultural cooperatives with the necessary skills and knowledge for long-term sustainability. “The essence of this workshop is to educate and train both newly established and existing cooperatives on effective management and operation,” he stated.

The training aimed to empower participants to better manage resources, particularly those acquired through loans, and enhance food productivity across the region. Key topics included effective governance, financial management, marketing strategies, and climate-smart agriculture practices.

Participants hailed from all 21 local government areas of Adamawa State, with 15 representatives selected from five cooperatives from different regions. Mirchaulum highlighted the organization’s commitment to gender inclusivity, ensuring that both men and women play vital roles in cooperative development.

Following the training sessions, the MCRP plans to implement a monitoring and evaluation strategy to assess the impact of the training on cooperative performance.

Prof. Jude Momodu, a facilitator and director of the Center for Peace and Strategic Studies at Moddibo Adams University, Yola, noted that the program’s overarching goal is to bolster the capacity of cooperatives in the state. He asserted that empowered cooperatives are essential for driving economic growth and stability in the agricultural sector.
