Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has said with efforts and partnership, the country could eliminate tuberculosis by 2035.

Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu decried the high rate of tuberculosis (TB) infection in the country as shown in reported cases in 2023.

She stated this on Tuesday while speaking at the 2024 National TB Conference in Abuja themed, ‘Public-Private Partnership and Integrated Service Delivery: Panacea to End TB in Nigeria’.

The First Lady commended the efforts of partners in the fight to end tuberculosis in the country. She, however, noted that with the high rate of reported cases, the fight must be intensified.

Nigeria remains the country with the highest TB burden in Africa and ranks sixth globally. According to the 2024 WHO Global Tuberculosis Report, Nigeria recorded approximately 467,000 TB cases in 2023, underscoring the urgency of our collective fight against this disease,” she said.

Mrs. Tinubu, particularly, commended the progress that has been made in diagnosing and treating TB. She attributed the progress to President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to addressing the scourge, civil society organizations and international partners like USAID and the Global Fund.

The solution to ending TB lies in the strength of our partnerships public and private and the integrated delivery of services that leave no one behind,” the First Lady stated.

According to Core TV, Mrs. Tinubu reaffirmed her dedication to eradicating tuberculosis, stressing the significance of the conference as a platform to share knowledge, develop strategies, and renew commitment to the fight against tuberculosis.
