A total of 108 senior officers of the Nigerian Army have been promoted to the ranks of Major-General and Brigadier-General.
A statement released on Friday by the Director of Army Public Relations, Maj-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, confirmed this action by the Nigerian Army Council, indicating that the list comprises 35 Brigadier-Generals who have been promoted to Major-Generals and 73 Colonels who have ascended to the rank of Brigadier-General.
Among those elevated to Major-General are officers occupying significant command and staff roles.
Prominent individuals in this group include Brig-Gen. Ibikunle Ajose, the acting General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander of Sector 2, North West Operation Fasan Yamma; and Brig-Gen. U.G. Ogeleka, the Commander of the Nigerian Army Space Command, among others.
Officers receiving promotions to the Major-General rank include Brig-Gen. B.P. Koughna, the Deputy Chief of Military Affairs at Army Headquarters, Department of Civil-Military Affairs; Brig-Gen. I. Otu from the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre; Brig-Gen. A.O. Adegbite from the Headquarters of the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport; and Brig-Gen. S.A. Jimoh, the Deputy Director of the Tender Board in the Department of Procurement.
In the Brigadier-General category, notable promotions feature Col. S.M. Iliya, the Commander of the 43 Engineers Brigade; Col. O. Igwe, the Commander of the 78 Supply and Transport; and Col. N.S. Onuchukwu, the Chief Medical Director of the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, among others.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has urged the newly promoted officers to intensify their efforts, validate their promotions, and exemplify leadership. He also encouraged them to devise innovative strategies to address the nation’s current security challenges.
“Oluyede also reminded them of their oath of allegiance to defend the nation and their duty to maintain unalloyed loyalty to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the statement added.
