The Presidents of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), Joe Ajaero and Festus Osifo, respectively, have confirmed that Port Harcourt Refinery is working.
The two organized labour union presidents stated this on Monday while they were taken around the refinery’s facility.
Ajaero and Osifo both led a delegation of other labour union leaders and conducted an inspection of the rehabilitated facility, and affirmed its functionality and output standards.
Speaking to newsmen at the facility after inspection, NLC President, Ajaero, said the inspection was in line with the agreement the organized labour had with the federal government.
He stated that the Port Harcourt Refinery is working. “It is in continuation of the agreement we signed with the government when there was increase in pump price of petroleum product.
“Part of the agreement was that this station must work and we have made efforts to emphasize it repeatedly. And now that it is working it our duty to come here and confirm that it is working. So it is an extension of an earlier agreement,” Ajaero said.
On his part, TUC President, Osifo, said the organized labour was satisfied with the refinery’s operation.
“At the various processing units, we were shown the heat exchangers, we were shown the turbine and how all these processes tie in into the production of the petroleum product as at today. To a very large extent, we are very satisfied. I and my team, we are satisfied with what we have seen with the level of work and level of detail that went into it,” Osifo stated.
