Nwoba Emerges As New Senate Clerk As NASC Makes Fresh Appointments

The National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) has approved the appointment of Andrew Nwoba as the new Clerk of the Senate.

Naija News reports that this appointment, effective from December 11, 2024, was ratified during the commission’s meeting held on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, as stated by the Director of Information, Emmanuel Anyigor, in a release on Monday.

At least 30 senior officials are set to retire alongside the current Clerk to the National Assembly, Magaji Tambawal.

Per parliamentary procedures, Tambawal commenced his pre-retirement leave on November 1, 2024, after delegating his responsibilities to his deputy, Kamouroudeen Ogundele.

The PUNCH claimed to have obtained an official document which indicates that notable personnel from the National Assembly, including the Clerk to the Senate, Chinedu Akabueze, the Deputy Clerk to the Senate, and the Deputy Clerk of the House of Representatives, will also be departing.

Additionally, 11 directors, six deputy directors, one assistant director, and two other directors at the National Assembly Service Commission are among those retiring.

In light of these retirements, the commission has appointed Nwoba and has also made several adjustments to other appointments.

Nwoba previously held the position of Secretary of the Directorate of Legislative Budget and Planning prior to his elevation.

The statement read, “In addition to Nwoba’s appointment, the NASC approved other significant changes within the National Assembly’s bureaucracy.

“Mr. Emmanuel Oda was appointed Deputy Clerk (Administration), Senate, while Vivien N. Njemanze was named Deputy Clerk (Administration), House of Representatives.

“Dr. Obasi D. Ukoha succeeds Nwoba as Secretary of the Directorate of Legislative Budget and Planning.”

Further modifications involved the reassignment of Mr. Rawlings Agada from the position of Deputy Clerk (Administration) in the Senate to Deputy Clerk (Legislative) in the Senate.

Additionally, Florence Kehinde transitioned from Deputy Clerk (Administration) in the House of Representatives to Deputy Clerk (Legislative) in the House of Representatives.

Previously, the Commission sanctioned the appointments of Ogundayo Mofoluwake Olufunmilayo as Secretary of the Directorate of Special Duties, Alkali Umar Abubakar as Secretary of the Directorate of Human Resource & Staff Development, and Essien Eyo Essien as Secretary of the Directorate of Zonal Liaison Offices.
