Many residents and early risers of Abeokuta metropolis were on Monday stranded at bus stops as commercial cab operators shun early morning operations. Major road across the state capital were devoid of early morning rush that characterises the first working day of the week. Adisa Buraimoh, a cab operator said he cannot afford to buy a liter of petrol at N1000 and run the cab empty. “I have chosen to start the daily operation at 7 a.m. This is because many residents of the town do not step out of their homes until about 6. 30 in the morning. Thomas Ajayi , who said he bought a liter at N1,100 along Alamala Barracks on the outskirts of Abeokuta said it is no longer profitable to run town service without packing to pick passengers.

“Before the current price hike, we still manager to drive along the roads to pick passengers one after the other. It is no longer profitable. Now, I find a strategic space to park and hail the passengers. “It is not profitable for me to buy at N1,100 per liter and run around searching for passengers that have taken to trekking. The government should reverse the price. Things are no longer at ease,” he said.
