The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has accused petroleum marketers of inflating petrol prices, alleging that Nigerians are being exploited and suffering due to government policies. Meanwhile, the estimated cost of landing Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, has dropped by 20.34% to N971.57 per litre over the past three months.
This decline in landing costs is attributed to reduced global market fluctuations and supply chain factors. However, despite this decrease, the retail price of petrol in Nigeria has surprisingly increased by N443, from N617 per litre on August 1, 2024, to N1,060 per litre as of November 8, 2024.
The NLC has directed state councils to commence an indefinite strike starting December 1, 2024, in protest against unaddressed labor issues and the government’s economic policies
The NLC has directed state councils to commence an indefinite strike starting December 1, 2024, in protest against unaddressed labor issues and the government’s economic policies. The organization demands appropriate pricing of petrol and calls for public domestic refineries to come on stream.
As the debate continues, Nigerians eagerly await a reduction in petrol prices that reflects the decreased landing cost.
