The Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has said his administration would create livestock ministry in January 2025.

Governor Mutfwang said Plateau State has the potential to lead in President Bola Tinubu’s livestock sector reforms.

He stated this while he played host to the Presidential Livestock Reforms Implementation Committee, led by Professor Attahiru Jega, in Jos.

The Governor praised President Tinubu for taking decisive steps to revitalize the sector, which could reduce farmer-herder conflicts and boost the economy.

Governor Mutfwang highlighted “Plateau’s strengths, including skilled human resources and a favorable climate, positioning the state as a key player in national livestock reforms“.

He stressed that the Ministry of Livestock Development when established in January 2025 would be charged with ensuring potential in the sector is maximized to the state’s benefit.

On his part, Professor Jega commended the Governor’s dedication and expressed confidence that ‘Plateau could become a model for livestock development, with the sector driving employment, economic growth, and productivity across the country”.

He explained that the committee was engaging stakeholders nationwide to unlock the sector’s full potential.

Also, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Ishaku Bugama, affirmed Plateau’s readiness to lead the transformation.

Naija News reported that the Jega-led committee also paid a visit to the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed.

During the visit, Governor Mohammed promised to maximize the potential of the livestock sector to lift the state’s economy.
