Police officer shoots colleague dead over argument on ‘secondhand phone’ in Lagos

A police officer, identified as Umar Lawal has shot and killed one Gabriel Audu, a legion, in Lagos State. The suspect and the victim are both assigned to Barrister Wale Fapohunda as security details. Th incident happened on August 8, 2024, at approximately 10:22 pm in the Surulere area of the State. The police also disclosed that information was received from the control room that a police officer from SPU Base 10 Sokoto, who was assigned to the barrister Fapohunda shot and killed the deceased. According to a police report, the suspect has since been arrested and has confessed to killing his colleague, he, however, said it was a mistake.

“As soon as the information was received, the police team left for Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), where the suspect, F/ No 510570, Corporal Umar Lawal, was apprehended, and his rifle, AK-47, which he used to kill the deceased, was also recovered. “He confessed to the crime and stated that he truly wanted to shoot Vincent, aka Dogman, who had engaged him in a heated argument over a used phone he had purchased from him.

“Unfortunately, the bullet struck the deceased in the chest, and he was taken to LUTH General Hospital Idi-Araba, where he was pronounced dead.

“The corpse has been photographed, and his remains have been placed in the same hospital morgue for autopsy,” a police report said.
