Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim acknowledged the team’s need for more clinical finishing after their closely contested 4-3 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup quarter-final on Thursday night.
The match began with Tottenham taking a commanding three-goal lead, with Dominic Solanke scoring twice and Dejan Kulusevski adding another. However, Ruben Amorim and his boys fought back with goals from Joshua Zirkzee and Amad Diallo.
Heung-Min Son extended Spurs’ lead with a fourth goal, but Johnny Evans found the net for United, culminating in an exciting match with seven total goals.
Amorim reflected on the performance during an interview with Sky Sports, stating, “We faced some challenges at the start of the second half, which was tough. Throughout various matches, we’ve often been the better side, but our opponents have been more clinical.”
Despite the disappointment of the cup exit, Amorim emphasized the valuable fighting spirit shown by his players.
Looking ahead, Amorim expressed his ambition to win the Premier League title with Manchester United. Having taken over during the November international break, the 39-year-old remains focused on long-term improvements within the team.
After his team’s 4-3 defeat against Spurs, Ruben Amorim remarked, “While winning silverware is important, it won’t solve everything. We are making progress as a team, and our ultimate goal is to win the Premier League. The timeframe for achieving that is uncertain, but we are committed to the journey.”
Currently, United sit in 13th place in the league table, six points away from the fourth spot and 14 points behind leaders Liverpool, but the manager remains optimistic about the potential for growth and success in the future.
