Activist lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has raised concerns over the transparency of the legislative process in passing the 2025 budget, claiming some senators may not have access to the document before it becomes law.

Adeyanju made the assertion on Thursday, revealing that five senators informed him they did not see the previous budget before its passage into law.

The activist shared his concerns against the backdrop of President Bola Tinubu’s presentation of the 2025 Appropriation Bill to a joint session of the National Assembly on Wednesday.

The 2025 fiscal document, “The Restoration Budget: Securing Peace, Rebuilding Prosperity,” outlines key allocations: ₦4.91 trillion for Defence and Security, ₦4.06 trillion for infrastructure, ₦3.52 trillion for education, and ₦2.48 trillion for health.

Adeyanju stressed the importance of legislative scrutiny, emphasizing that lawmakers must thoroughly examine the budget before its passage.

President Tinubu presented the budget and projected a total expenditure of ₦47.9 trillion, with ₦15.81 trillion allocated for debt servicing and a revenue target of ₦34.82 trillion.

The President described the budget as one aimed at stabilizing the economy and fostering prosperity.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter Adeyanju wrote, “5 senators told me they never saw the last budget after several demands; it was later passed into law with the speed of light.

“I’m sure, senators won’t also see this budget, neither will they scrutinize it and it will be passed. This is how low we have descended as a nation.”
