The Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Super Falcons have received nominations for the prestigious 2024 CAF Men’s and Women’s National Team of the Year awards.
In the men’s category of the 2024 CAF Awards, the Nigerian Super Eagles find themselves in competition with other notable teams such as the reigning African champions, the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire, and South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
For the Women’s National Team of the Year, the Super Falcons face stiff competition from South Africa’s Banyana Banyana, who have been a formidable presence in women’s football, and the Atlas Lionesses from Morocco, who have also made impressive strides on the continental stage.
In terms of achievements, the Super Eagles had a commendable run in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, finishing as runners-up. They reached the final but fell short against the hosts, the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire, losing the match 2-1 in a fiercely contested encounter that showcased their tenacity and skill throughout the tournament.
On the other hand, the Super Falcons encountered a challenging tournament in the 2024 Olympic Games held in Paris, France, where they, unfortunately, were unable to progress beyond the group stage, a setback that highlighted areas needing improvement as they strive to regain their dominant position in African women’s football.
Note that the 2024 CAF Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday, December 16.
