The Jigawa State Police Command has apprehended a tea vendor for allegedly killing a 20-year-old man named Hassan Garba over accusations of constantly stealing items from his shop. The vendor identified as Abdulrashidu Ya’u, who resides in Sararai village, Jigawar Tsada town in Dutse Local Government Area, was said to have beaten Hassan to death for stealing, bread, milk, noodles, and petrol from him.....CONTINUE READING THE ARTICLE FROM THE SOURCE

Confirming the incident in a statement on Tuesday, the Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawan Adam said Abdulrashidu committed the crime on August 19, 2024, at around 5:00 am.

Lawan said upon receiving the report, a patrol team was immediately deployed to the scene in an attempt to handle the situation. The team apprehended the suspect while the victim was rushed

to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital for immediate medical attention.

He however confirmed that on arrival “The medical doctor on duty certified the 20-year-man dead. His remains were examined, photographed and later released to his relatives for burial according to Islamic rite.”

The police spokesman said the suspect admitted to the crime during interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Dutse, saying the deceased was fond of stealing his goods to the point where he had informed his parents about it, but nothing had been done about it.

“Upon apprehending the deceased at this point, he made the decision to tie him with a rope and began striking him with a whip in secret”, the PPRO further revealed.

He said neighbours within the area could hear the deceased’s cries for help, but were unable to save him until the arrival of police officers.

Adam assured that upon completion of the discreet investigation, the suspect will be diligently arraigned in court to face the full wrath of the law.
