The induction ceremony took place during the 8th International Conference of PSSN at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi. Professor Waheed Yahya, the PSSN President, highlighted that the inductees were selected for their significant contributions to championing statistics in their professional fields.
“Dr. Mujidat Folashade Tinubu-Ojo has advocated and championed the interests and well-being of women marketers in the country, bringing unquantifiable happiness to hardworking entrepreneurial women,” said Yahya. He added, “Her love for humanity and support for the vulnerable led her to enroll over 10,000 children of common traders and less privileged Nigerians into various tertiary institutions across the country on scholarship, eliminating disparity among the children of the rich and the downtrodden.”
Yahya commended the inductees for defending the interests of statisticians in Nigeria, emphasizing the importance of their contributions.
Speaking on behalf of the inductees, the APC National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Basiru, called for the depoliticization of data collection in Nigeria to enable leaders to make informed decisions driven by data. He noted, “No country can develop meaningfully without data. PSSN must engage in noble advocacy, involving leaders and the media to support timely and accurate national data.”
In his goodwill message, the President-General, Yoruba Community, Bauchi State, Special Apostle Segun Awofadeji prayed that at the end of the conference, the PSSN would be able to proffer lasting solutions to the challenges across the various sectors of the nation’s economy.
Awofadeji who described the theme of this year’s conference “Statistics: The key to unlocking Nigeria’s Economic Potentials” as apt and timely, expressed optimism that the conference will come out with strategies to help unlock hidden economic potentials in the country.
He said, “Your presence here is a morale booster to all of us that Nigeria is on the path of glory, Nigerians are gradually becoming a people with the hope of a better tomorrow considering the robust plans, programs, and policies of the APC led administration under the able leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Jagaban of Nigeria.
“It may interest you to know that the Yoruba Community in Bauchi state is enjoying a robust, cordial, and good relationship with the host communities, especially under the leadership of the Governor, Senator Bala Abdukadir Mohammed (Kauran Bauchi and Jagaban Katagum) who has carried everyone along in the administration of the state.”
“The Yoruba and other nonindigenes are living and coexisting peacefully, going about their legitimate businesses and other endeavours without any fear of harassment and intimidation. The Bala Mohammed-led PDP administration has done well in promoting peaceful and hardworking coexistence”, he stated.
