Activist lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has described the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a “dead party” following its decision to expel Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the House of Representatives member representing Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency of Imo State.
Adeyanju criticized the party’s move, questioning why Ugochinyere was expelled while Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and a vocal critic of the PDP leadership, remains a member of the party.
Ugochinyere, who also serves as the spokesman for the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), was expelled by the PDP for alleged gross indiscipline, insubordination, and anti-party activities.
His expulsion was contained in a letter from the Ideato Local Government Area chapter of the party, dated December 5, 2024.
The letter, signed by LGA Chairman Hon. ThankGod Okeke and Secretary Onyebuchi Umeh, stated that Ugochinyere’s expulsion followed the recommendation of a disciplinary committee report dated November 27, 2024.
The committee cited Section 57 (1-4) of the PDP constitution (2017, as amended) to justify the decision.
However, posting on X, Adeyanju wrote, “Ikenga Ugochinyere, the courageous one, has been expelled for anti-party by APC moles who are in charge of PDP, but Wike is still a member of the PDP.
“The jokes write themselves daily. The PDP is a dead party awaiting funeral rites.”
