Insiders say former Governor Gbenga Daniel and Ibikunle Amosun are playing front row roles.
“That is inevitable because they are owners of two out of four formidable statewide and most pronounced political structures in the state”according to those in the know.
Gbenga Daniel
Three out of the owners of the four most pronounced statewide political structures in the state are in the APC – Daniel, Amosun and Adeola Yayi – while the fourth person, Ladi Adebutu is the unceasing gubernatorial candidate of the rival People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Adeola Yayi is Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, the Senator representing Ogun West who is the post popular aspirant – by deeds – in the race to determine the next Governor of Ogun.
Abiodun, whose constitutionally allowed second term ends in 2027, became governor in 2019 and secured re-election in 2023 on the platform of Yayi’s political structure in collaboration with others at both times.
Ibikunle Amosun
The race to determine who becomes his successor created major sparks and conflicts that were weakening the already fractured Ogun APC, until the idea that powerful players come together to stop the slide by adopting an aspirant – a process that has reached an advanced stage – came to be.
Those who should know disclosed Daniel, the Senator representing Ogun East and Amosun, the immediate past Senator from Ogun Central are playing prominent roles because, aside from owning high-impact political structures, they fashioned out a political partnership helping them to present a ‘united front’ well ahead of the emerging situation.
And the strength of their collaboration has given near indispensable status according 6o insiders.
