According to the report by The Cable, Umahi said that the Igbos will not join the hunger protest against the federal government because President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has shown that he has good intentions for the South-East region.

Speaking during the inspection of the Enugu-Onitsha, Enugu-Abakaliki, and Enugu-Port Harcourt road projects being executed by the federal government and Enugu State government, Umahi said that the Igbos had been excluded from governance for a long time, but now President Tinubu’s government has executed several infrastructural developments in the South-East.

He said, “So, why should we protest against a man who has given to us what was never given to us before?

“I thank Governor Mbah very much for showing leadership not only in development strides but also when it mattered most. I appreciate other governors and other states that did not protest.”

Also speaking at the event, Governor Mbah thanked the South-East people for shunning the hunger protest, saying that the people have shown that they understand the value of hard work.

He urged the people to exercise patience with the government, and gave the assurance that the government’s economic reforms will yield positive results.
