BREAKING: 10th National Assembly: Ibori’s daughter, 4 other ex-governors’ children to chair House committees

Five children of Nigeria’s former governors have been appointed as Chairmen of various standing committees in the House of Representatives.

The committees according to the constitution will carry out oversight functions on government agencies and programmes and address specific issues of national importance.

The children are Erhiatake Ibori Suenu, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Delta state; Mohammed Bello el-Rufai, All Progressives Congress, APC, Kaduna state; and Adegboyega Adefarati, APC, Ondo state; Olamiju Akala from Oyo State and Segun Osoba from Ogun state.

Suenu’s father, James Ibori, was governor of Delta State between 1999 and 2007.

Mohammed is the son of Nasir el-Rufai, the immediate past governor of Kaduna.

Olumide is the son of Segun Osoba, former governor of Ogun, who ruled between 1992 and 2003.

Adegboyega is the son of the late former governor of Ondo, Adebayo Adefarati. Adefarati was governor from 1999 to 2003.

They are expected to head the following committees:

Erhiatake Ibori Suenu — Niger Delta Development Commission, NNDC, committee

Mohammed Bello el-Rufai — Banking regulation committee

Adegboyega Adefarati — Labour, employment and productivity committee

Olamiju Akala — Youth in parliament committee
