The major predicament confronting our nation, Nigeria, today is religion. There are those who hold on tight to it yet doing more evils than those who do not belong to any religion, either Christian or Islam.
All those kidnapping, killing for religion, those using their fellow men and women for rituals, those looting the national treasury with careless abandon, are they not either Christians or Muslims attending Churches or Mosques?
The above is a rhetorical question that should struck the mind of anyone reading this piece.

The conversation in the video is relevant to the happenings in Nigeria. We refused to tolerate one another, yet we pretend to be religious, yet killing and maiming those whom one cannot create branding them an ‘infidel’ to give dog a bad name in order to hang it.
This brings me to Yorubaland where religion is a matter of choice and not of compulsion or coercion. Yorubas believe you are alone with your God, on Judgement Day, father cannot stand for his wife nor father or mother stand for their children.
The Yorubas cohabitate, marrying across religious divide in peace, they are too civilized to kill for religion because they believe life has not duplicate. You must not kill those you cannot create, that is the spirit of love and peace.
The following is the reasons why others should emulate the Yorubas on how to manage issues without stoning or burning one another. The word is TOLERANCE! We should be able to tolerate one another.
It’s only in Yorubaland that you’ll see a father, Christian and the mother Muslim, firstborn is Christian.

Yes my Igbo brother, you are right. we Yorubas are so much confused that we don’t allow you guys to divide us with religion, we are so much confused in the sense that we put humanity above any religion, we are so much confused that we see each other as human beings first before we see religion, we are so much confused because we put love above any religion and this is why our region has always been peaceful and this is why we have always been pacesetter.
Did you even know that my Dad is a Muslim? He named me Sadiq. My Mum is a Christian and she names me Oluwakayode. But now I believe in my ancestor’s culture because every religion came out of culture.
Yoruba race has only been the race in the world that has Christianity, Islam, Isese which we called traditional religion coexist in peace.
My uncle is a Muslim, married three wives since his religion permits. Guess what he married? One Muslim, one Christian and the last one is a traditionalist.

Palestine and Israel are still fighting up till this moment. Number one factor to this tribal war is religion. Everybody knows Palestine and Israel are the same people who share one ancestors. Egypt and Israel never liked each other and it’s because of religion.
What if we can’t talk about Africa that we are? So if you think about it, we should be celebrated as pacesetter because we are barrier breakers, we have opened the way and by the power of “Eledumare” religion crises must be consumed in Nigeria and Africa.
The foundation of Yoruba tolerance in Nigeria was laid by our ancestors. Yoruba race happens to be the only race in West Africa who resisted Jihad war, especially the jihad war from Fulani.
Only Ilorin that was conquered due to how they betrayed their brothers in West, though they’re still our brothers.
This is how our forefathers laid foundation of religion for we the Yoruba people. We accepted religion free will on our own. The first people to introduce religion to the Yoruba were the Malian.
This was around 18th Century when our forefathers from Ufloy travelled to Mali for trade. They introduced Islam to some of our people and this is why till today, Yoruba people still refer Muslim as “Esin Imole”. They corrupted it from esin Mali to esin Imole.
The first Mosque to be built in Nigeria was built in Oyo Ile around 1550AD while the second Mosque was built in Kano around 1582AD.
So Yoruba has been in contact with Jam long before the Fulani came with their Holy War trying to conquer Yoruba like they did in Northern Nigeria and Northern Africa. Our forefathers resisted them twice, one at Oshogbo and another one during the Jalumi war.
This is why till today, the Yoruba people practiced religion as freedom just the way it’s supposed to be.
