In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, Kosoko hailed the late actress as a disciplined professional who made significant contributions to the entertainment industry.

“We have lost another gem, albeit at a ripe age. I pray for the peaceful repose of her soul,” he said.

Kosoko recalled working with Ms. Evoeme on “The New Masquerade,” where he was a guest artist. He praised her exceptional talent and dedication. “She was just fantastic,” he remarked.

“May her soul find eternal rest, and may God continue to guide those of us who remain,” he added.

Jide Kosoko emphasized Ms. Evoeme’s unwavering adherence to professional ethics, including punctuality, respect for directors, and upholding other industry standards. He urged aspiring actors to emulate her virtues.

Born Elizabeth in 1942 in Calabar, Cross River State, Ms. Evoeme rose to prominence as an actress from 1982 to 1993, before the advent of Nollywood. Her stage name, Ovuleria, became synonymous with her role as the wife of the assertive Chief Zebrudaya Okoroigwe Nwogbo (Chika Okpala) in “The New Masquerade,” a popular show that aired on Nigeria’s national TV station.

Ms. Evoeme’s character portrayed a petty trader who was both assertive and obedient, never challenging her husband’s decisions, even when others disagreed. She once admitted to not knowing the meaning of her stage name, Ovuleria.
