Mohammed, a seasoned lawyer, affirmed that Bello is not apprehensive about facing arraignment but is concerned about his safety while in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja. He elucidated that persistent threats to Bello’s life in the capital prompted him to seek refuge.

It is noted that the agreement to comply with the court’s proceedings was swayed by Justice Emeka Nwite’s assurances that the EFCC would adhere to legal norms. Justice Nwite emphasized that Bello’s case, based on unsubstantiated accusations, adheres to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.

In response to the judge’s counsel, Bello’s counsel expressed appreciation and pledged his client’s cooperation, contingent upon assurances regarding his safety. Mohammed requested a grace period of four weeks to facilitate Bello’s appearance in court.
