According to a report by Premium Times on Monday 20th April 2026, former Senator representing Adamawa North, Ishaku Abbo, has formally resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), deepening the wave of defections currently shaking the party in Adamawa State.
Abbo confirmed his exit on Monday, attributing his decision to what he described as unresolved internal crises and leadership disputes within the party’s state structure.
He also disclosed plans to join another political platform, which is expected to be announced in the coming days, though he did not reveal the name of the new party.
His departure comes shortly after a major faction loyal to Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed (Binani) also withdrew from the ADC, signalling widening cracks and growing instability within the party in the state.
Political observers say the recent developments point to escalating tensions over the conduct of party congresses, which some stakeholders have repeatedly described as flawed and lacking credibility.
A communiqué issued after a stakeholders’ meeting in Adamawa accused the party leadership of weakening internal democracy and rendering the state structure ineffective.
