JUST IN: “If God Wanted To Abandon Us (PDP), We Wouldn’t Have Started Winning–Wike

According to a report by Nigerian Tribune on Monday, April 20, 2026, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and a prominent figure within the Peoples Democratic Party, has renewed calls for internal reconciliation within the party, urging the establishment of a committee that will reach out to members who have left due to disagreements and internal disputes.

His remarks were delivered during a high-level party meeting held in Abuja, where key leaders gathered to discuss the future direction of the party and efforts to address long-standing divisions.

The meeting, which was the 108th National Executive Committee gathering of the party, was convened under the leadership of the current National Working Committee.

Discussions at the session focused on the need to stabilize the party following a period marked by internal disagreements and factional challenges.

Wike emphasized that reconciliation remains a necessary step in rebuilding trust among members and strengthening the party’s structure ahead of future political engagements.

He stressed that individuals who had left the party should not be permanently excluded if efforts are made to bring them back into the fold.

During the meeting, Wike stated that arrangements should be made to ensure that members who left the party over unresolved issues are engaged and encouraged to return.

He also indicated that entitlements belonging to defected members should be restored where applicable, as part of efforts to rebuild unity and reduce internal tension.

The proposal was presented as a way of encouraging inclusiveness and preventing further fragmentation within the party structure, which has experienced divisions in recent times.

The FCT Minister also acknowledged the loyalty of members who remained with the party throughout periods of internal crisis.

He noted that those who stayed committed during the difficult phase played a role in keeping the party functional despite disagreements at leadership levels.

At the same time, he stressed the importance of bringing all factions together in order to strengthen unity and reposition the party for future political competition.

The emphasis was placed on collaboration and reconciliation as key elements for progress.

He said, “We are confident that our lawyers have been doing great work. God, who has led this far, can never abandon us. So if God wanted to abandon us, we wouldn’t have started winning.”
