JUST IN: Defected APC Heavyweights Secures NDC Senatorial Tickets Ahead of 2027

According to report by Nigerian Tribune on Thursday, May 28, 2026, the leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has approved special waivers for two prominent politicians, former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, and former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, allowing them to contest senatorial seats under the party’s banner in the 2027 general elections.

According to the party’s arrangement, Omo-Agege will be contesting for the Delta Central Senatorial District seat, while Ochei has been cleared to run for the Delta North Senatorial District seat.

Their approval comes shortly after both politicians officially left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the NDC.

In a statement released on Thursday by the National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director (Esq.), the party welcomed the duo into its ranks and described the development as a major boost for its growing political structure.

The statement emphasized that the NDC is committed to providing a fair, inclusive, and credible platform for all aspirants.

The party further explained that the decision to grant the waivers was influenced by the extensive political experience, leadership track records, and dedication of both men to democratic governance, public service, and development-oriented politics.

It expressed confidence that Omo-Agege and Ochei possess the political strength, grassroots influence, and institutional knowledge required to effectively represent their constituencies.

The NDC also noted that their entry into the party would strengthen its presence in Delta State and improve its preparedness ahead of the 2027 elections.

It reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy, transparency, and unity as key principles guiding its operations.

Omo-Agege, who previously served as Deputy President of the 9th Senate and contested the Delta governorship election, recently confirmed his resignation from the APC and his intention to return to the Senate under the NDC platform.

Similarly, Victor Ochei, a former Speaker and influential political figure in Delta North, also formally aligned with the NDC as part of broader political realignments ahead of the upcoming elections.
