JUST IN: “We’ll Do Everything Possible to Secure Their Release” — Musa on Kidnapped Victims

The Minister of Defence and former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has assured Nigerians affected by kidnapping incidents that the Federal Government, in collaboration with security agencies, is fully committed to securing the release of all abducted persons across the country.

Musa gave the assurance during an interview on TVC News on Monday, June 1, 2026, where he addressed rising public concerns following a series of kidnapping cases, including the recent abduction of students in Oyo State. His comments come amid growing anxiety over insecurity in several parts of the country, particularly attacks targeting schools and rural communities.

Speaking on the government’s ongoing efforts, the Defence Minister reaffirmed that authorities are not abandoning victims currently in the custody of criminal groups. He stressed that security agencies are actively working to track and rescue abducted citizens, despite the complex operational challenges involved in such missions.

Musa also used the platform to express empathy with families affected by the incidents, noting that the government shares in their pain and concern. He emphasized that efforts to address the security situation remain continuous and focused on achieving tangible results in rescue operations and crime prevention.

In his words, he stated: “As we speak I know some of our brothers and sisters that have been kidnapped, abducted wherever they are, they will know that we are always with them. And we will do whatever it takes to ensure that we free them,”.

The Defence Minister’s comments were made on the sidelines of a cultural event held in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, where he was present as part of official engagements. While addressing journalists, he also underscored the importance of collaboration between citizens, traditional leaders, and security agencies in tackling insecurity.

According to him, achieving lasting peace and security requires collective responsibility, with communities playing a crucial role in providing intelligence and supporting ongoing military and security operations.
