SPORT NEWS: Chelsea Set to Complete Transfer as Star Joins From English Club to Become Alonso’s First Signing

According to a report by TeamTalk on the 10th of June, 2026, Chelsea have won the race to sign highly-rated English teenager Harrison Bettoni, beating competition from Premier League rivals Manchester City and Italian giants AC Milan for his signature.

The move is set to become the latest addition to Chelsea’s long-term project under the BlueCo ownership, with the club continuing its strategy of recruiting some of the most promising young talents in world football ahead of Xabi Alonso’s first season in charge.

Bettoni, 18, enjoyed an impressive breakthrough campaign with League One side Wigan Athletic during the 2025/26 season. The talented midfielder made 27 appearances for the Latics, scoring four goals after progressing through the club’s academy ranks.

Standing at 6ft 3in, Bettoni has been praised for his physical presence, technical ability, and his effectiveness in both attacking and defensive phases of the game, qualities that attracted interest from several top European clubs.

Transfer expert Pete O’Rourke confirmed that Chelsea have secured an agreement to sign the youngster, who will be available as a free agent after his contract with Wigan expires later this month. However, the London club will still be required to pay training compensation to Wigan for the development of their academy graduate.

O’Rourke wrote on social media: “Understand Chelsea have won the race for Wigan youngster Harrison Bettoni. The attacking midfielder is available as a free agent with Wigan due training compensation from Chelsea.”

Chelsea had faced significant competition in their pursuit of the teenager. Manchester City and AC Milan had also held talks over a possible move for Bettoni, with all three clubs monitoring his situation as his Wigan contract approached its end.

The arrival of the young midfielder would continue Chelsea’s busy recruitment drive. Before Alonso was officially appointed as the club’s new manager, the Blues had already completed deals for Emmanuel Emegha, Denner, Dastan Satpaev, and Sporting CP winger Geovany Quenda.
