According to a report by Daily Post, on Friday April 24, 2026, a Kano-based political participation activist, Zulaiha Danjuma, has stated that Nigerians, especially those in the northern region, are increasingly losing confidence in the government due to worsening insecurity.
She stated that rising violence across many communities has weakened trust in leadership and reduced belief in political promises, she explained that insecurity in the northern region has continued to worsen, with repeated reports of attacks on villages, highways, and farming communities.
Many residents, she said, are living in fear as violent incidents occur more frequently, according to her, people once believed that government efforts would improve safety and stability, but that hope is now fading, she added that the continued insecurity has left many citizens disappointed and frustrated with the state of affairs.
Zulaiha noted that the current administration had earlier promised to end insecurity and restore peace across the country, however, she said the situation on the ground shows a different reality, communities, she added, are still experiencing deaths, destruction of property, and ongoing instability.
She stressed that the gap between political promises and the daily experiences of citizens has continued to grow wider, leading to increased public distrust, according to her, this situation is now affecting how people view governance and national leadership.
She warned that when citizens no longer believe that the government can protect them, trust in public institutions begins to break down, she said that fear caused by repeated violence is changing how people engage in society, including their willingness to take part in political and civic activities.
“The Nigerian people, especially those in the North where insecurity is escalating, have lost faith in this government in power. The administration promised to rid the country of insecurity, but you can see the situation we are in today; deaths, destruction and killings everywhere,” she said.
