For decades, many churches have taught that every Christian must pay tithe or risk losing God’s blessings. However, some pastors and Bible scholars now argue that tithing under the New Testament may not be compulsory as many people believe. One of the most quoted verses about tithe is Malachi 3:10:
“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse…”
But critics argue that this command was specifically given to the Israelites under the Old Covenant law. They also point to 2 Corinthians 9:7, where the Bible says: “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion.”
