President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has revealed the personal toll his journey to Nigeria’s highest office took on him, saying he lost sleep and weight in the pursuit of the presidency.
Speaking during a recent engagement, Tinubu described the demanding nature of his presidential ambition, stressing that the path to leadership required immense sacrifice, resilience and unwavering commitment.
According to the president, securing the mandate to lead Africa’s most populous nation was far from an easy task, as it came with enormous physical and emotional pressure. He noted that the intense campaign period and the responsibilities attached to the office often kept him awake at night.
“I lost sleep and weight for this presidency job,” Tinubu said, underscoring the challenges he endured while striving to achieve his long-held political ambition.
The president explained that leadership is not a position of comfort but one that demands sacrifice, dedication and readiness to confront difficult realities. He added that his administration remains focused on addressing Nigeria’s pressing economic and security challenges despite the difficulties.
Tinubu’s remarks have since sparked reactions across political circles, with supporters describing the statement as evidence of his commitment to national service, while critics insist that Nigerians are more concerned about tangible improvements in living conditions.
Since assuming office, Tinubu has introduced several reforms aimed at stabilizing the economy and repositioning the country for growth. However, his administration continues to face mounting pressure over inflation, insecurity and the rising cost of living affecting millions of Nigerians.
