According to TEMPO.CO, Qatar ranks as the richest Muslim country. Qatar, with a population of 1.7 million, had a per capita Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of about $88,919 in 2011. This makes Qatar one of the fastest-growing economies in the world. Qatar’s wealth largely comes from its extensive exports of natural gas, oil, and petrochemicals. The country possesses vast reserves of oil.

Qatar is followed by Kuwait, which is the second-richest Muslim country with a population of 3.5 million. In 2011, Kuwait’s per capita GDP was $54,664, and it had reserves of 104 million barrels of crude oil. Kuwait’s economy also benefits significantly from the shipping industry.

Brunei Darussalam is the third-richest Muslim-majority country. In 2010, Brunei’s per capita GDP was $50,506, making it one of the world’s wealthy nations. Its wealth is supported by excellent oil and natural gas fields that have been in operation for 80 years. Brunei contributes 90 percent of its exports in hydrogen resources and is the ninth-largest exporter of liquefied natural gas and the fourth-largest exporter of oil.

Other wealthy Muslim countries include the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which ranks fourth. The UAE earns substantial revenue from petroleum and natural gas exports. Oman is the fifth-richest Muslim country, known for its natural gas reserves of up to 849.5 billion cubic meters, and significant deposits of copper, gold, zinc, and iron. Saudi Arabia, the world’s second-largest oil producer, ranks sixth, and Bahrain is the seventh-richest Muslim country.
