BREAKING: Gov Eno tasks Corps members on national unity

Gov. Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom has cautioned Corps Members serving in the state not to allow divisive tendencies to influence their approach to national issues.

The Governor, who was represented by Mr Emmanuel Akpabio, Director, Youths Development in the Ministry of Youths and Sports, admonished them to guard their minds against negative narrative that will not promote unity and development.

“Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, Nigeria can only become the country of our dream if we do not allow those divisive tendencies to influence our approach to national issues.

“As young Nigerians, I admonish you to guard your minds against negative narratives that will not promote unity and development. As future leaders, I encourage you to have big dreams for yourselves and for the State,” Eno said.

He urged the corps members to make a mark in their Community Development Service (CDS) programme, endeavour to co-exist mutually with their host communities and refrain from any action that will offend their sensibilities.

He assured corps members that the state government would not shy away from its responsibilities towards their welfare.

Eno promised to intervene in giving the orientation camp a facelift by addressing the challenges confronting the corps members in the camp.

Earlier in her address, Mrs Chinyere Ekwe, urged the corps members to build on the skills acquired from the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to empower themselves and become self reliance.

Ekwe urged corps members posted to their place of primary assignments to be security conscious at all times and avoid night travels.

“Let me warn you against unauthorised journeys. If you are permitted to travel, you must avoid night journeys.Be conscious of your security, contact law enforcement agencies as well as your Local Government Inspectors when under threat.” Ekwe said.

She appealed to the corps members to take the knowledge gained from the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programmevery serious as it was the way for job creation.

The state coordinator appealed to Corps Employers to always accept corps members posted to them and make necessary provisions for their welfare.

She expressed appreciation to the Akwa Ibom Government, Local Government Councils, Security Agencies and all stakeholders for their support and contribution to the scheme….CONTINUE READING
