With time running out, it looked like the Manchester United player would have to contend with more months on the sidelines. Last month, the club had mutually agreed with him that he would no longer play for them again.

Greenwood has not played competitively since January 2022, when he was accused of coercive behaviour and sexual assault. He was arrested and subsequently arraigned in court before his charges were dropped early this year.

His case remained an emotive issue, with the Red Devils taking their time before making a decision. The club received protests from multiple groups who were against the possible reintegration of the 21-year-old back to the team.

United were faced with the prospect of paying him close to 8 million euros to terminate his contract if he couldn’t find a club. He still has a running contract till 2025 for 75,000 euros weekly.

Fans reactions on Greenwood’s transfer

Spanish side Getafe offered a solution to both parties a few hours before the transfer deadline. A section of fans have now turned their wrath on the La Liga club with the term ‘disgusting’ trending on social media giant X.

@slxvixd said:

“We will support any team Greenwood is playing against.”

@CFCA1 said:

“Disgraceful club”

@SanchoEra25 referenced the current ongoing in the Spanish Women’s team and questioned Getafe’s timing.

“With everything going on with the Spanish woman’s team, you employ this guy. Embarrassing.”

There were, however, select messages of support to Greenwood as he seeks to restart his career in the Iberian country. His main issue remains that the law courts might have cleared him, but he still has a case to answer with the court of public opinion.

Sofyan Amrabat joins Manchester United

Sports Brief has also reported that after weeks of speculation, reported mutiny and a delay in finding a solution to comply with Financial Fair Play Rules, Sofyan Amrabat is finally a Manchester United player.

The Moroccan midfielder was among the high-profile players who swapped clubs on deadline day as he moved to England on a season-long loan deal from Fiorentina.

The Red Devils paid 10 million euros as a loan fee with an option to buy for 25 million euros once the loan is over.

Inside Jadon Sancho’s Troubled Career, Indiscipline Issues As He Fights ten Hag

  • Jadon Sancho’s outburst on social media has opened Pandora’s box on his career at Manchester United
  • The winger’s attitude was questioned by Erik ten Hag after he dropped him for the trip to the Emirates
  • As Sports Brief delves into it, Sancho’s issues with authorities started during his days at Manchester City

When Manchester United beat a myriad of other clubs to Jadon Sancho’s signature in 2021, it looked like a real-time coup, so much so that the 85 million euros paid to Borussia Dortmund looked like a proper investment.

For a young English star who had lit up the Bundesliga with mesmerizing performances, any fee was worth it. Or so it was thought.

So, where did it all go wrong for the young, talented teenager who had the world at his feet at the Signal Iduna Park? What is it that prompted Erik ten Hag to publicly call him out after the damaging Arsenal defeat on September 3? And what about Sancho’s response on social media?

Jadon Sancho’s issues at Borussia Dortmund

Unsurprisingly, this is not the first time the 23-year-old has rubbed shoulders with authorities. In 2020, during the COVID-19 lockdown, he, alongside Manuel Akanji, were fined for having a haircut in their home, which was a contravention of the rules set in place to curb the pandemic, as Sky Sports reported.

Earlier in 2019, he was fined up to 100,000 pounds for turning up late for training with no justifiable excuse after being away on international duty. 90 Min reports that his actions upset manager Lucien Favre, who dropped him from his squad to face Borussia Monchengladbach.

In 2021, England’s national team boss, Gareth Southgate, confirmed that Sancho’s lack of playing time at the Euros was down to lack of training form. His involvement in the tournament staged in multiple countries was curtailed until the quarter-finals stage.

Pep Guardiola’s comments on Jadon Sancho

Borussia Dortmund signed Sancho from Manchester City when Pep Guardiola had already taken charge. The revered manager was previously put to task to explain why he allowed such a young kid with enormous potential to leave to which he replied;

“I don’t know. He didn’t want to take this challenge, this opportunity to discover if he was able to,” as quoted by Bleacher Report.

See the pattern?

Sancho’s latest outburst should, therefore, not come as a surprise. Here is a player whose abilities, on his good day, no one can question but has time and time again been weighed down by poor decisions or, to put it loosely, lack of discipline.

Sancho fires back at Erik ten Hag

In his latest spirited defence on Twitter, the winger reaffirmed that ‘he will not allow people to say things that are completely untrue,’ adding that ‘I have been a scapegoat for a long time.’

Like anyone else, he deserves a fair hearing and a chance to prove himself, but what are the chances that Favre, Southgate, Guardiola and now ten Hag are all wrong about him?

An old video of Sancho during his days in the Manchester City academy shows him trudging off the pitch, visibly upset to be replaced by Phil Foden.

He is seemingly angry with the decision and barely acknowledges Foden, who, as expected, is shocked by his teammate’s reaction.

How has ten Hag treated Sancho at Man United?

Before ten Hag’s latest sentiments, the Dutch manager had excluded Sancho from group training, subjecting him to personalised attention in his native Netherlands in an attempt to bring him back to where he was. As Sports Brief reported, Sancho was away for three months before ten Hag welcomed him back with a big smile on February 1st.

During his short time at United, ten Hag has shown leniency and strictness in equal measure. He gave Harry Maguire a chance to prove himself as a starter and as a captain despite calls for the centre-back to be dropped altogether. He finally cracked the whip this season.

For him to call out Sancho in a press conference after all the interventions he put in place can only mean that it didn’t work.

What’s next for Sancho?

For a manager who didn’t think twice about banning the mighty Cristiano Ronaldo, dropping an on-form Marcus Rashford for being 45 seconds late, disciplining Alejandro Garnacho when he had just hit his purple patch, among other things, Sancho’s message on social media won’t be taken lightly.

It also doesn’t bode well for United’s scouting department to rope in a player who had many documented cases of indiscipline. Either they chose to give him the benefit of the doubt, or someone did not do their homework well.

Also, the question many United fans will be asking is, if Sancho is not offering what ten Hag wants in training, what criteria does he use to select Antony and Anthony Martial, who have equally been underwhelming in games?

Mason Greenwood Faces Calls to be Sacked by Getafe After Three Days Since Signing for Club

  • Mason Greewhood’s aim to reignite his career in Spain has already hit a snag
  • The embattled Manchester United forward joined Getafe on loan this season
  • The Englishman has not played in almost two years after he was suspended

A Spanish domestic abuse charity has called on Getafe to reverse their choice of signing Mason Greenwood from Manchester United.

Earlier this month, it was announced that both United and Greenwood had jointly decided the most suitable course of action was for the forward to pursue his career elsewhere.

On the transfer deadline day, the 21-year-old successfully completed a loan transfer to the La Liga team, Getafe.

However, after securing Greenwood’s signature, the Spanish side has come under intense scrutiny, per the Daily Mirror.

The publication reports that the Ana Bella Foundation, a domestic abuse charity in the country, has formally requested the club reconsider the decision to sign the former United player.

The foundation is reported to have called out Getafe for ‘setting a terrible example’ by bringing Greenwood in, as Manchester Evening News also reported.

“Getafe executives should never have hired Mason Greenwood and should immediately overturn their decision. If you’re a public-facing organisation like Getafe, there is no excuse to take a neutral stance on violence against women – you must take moral responsibility.”

According to SportBible, Greenwood has been out of competitive action for over 18 months due to the allegations of attempted assault and controlling behaviour levelled at him.

However, these charges were subsequently dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February, with United also initiating their own internal investigation into the matter.

Clubs from Turkey and Italy were interested in signing the 21-year-old forward, but the Spanish side won the race to sign him on a season-long loan.

His fitness would be questionable since he hasn’t had a competitive game in months, so his debut is expected to come later this month.

How fans reacted to Greenwood’s return

Sports Brief also reported on fans having mixed reactions to Greenwood’s return after Man United released a statement claiming he would continue his career away at Old Trafford.

Some lines of the presser did not sit well with fans, who believe non-conviction does not mean ‘not guilty’ and called out the club for insinuating that the striker had committed no offence.

Jadon Sancho’s Manchester United future could be in doubt after he took a swipe at manager Erik ten Hag for saying he had been dropped because of poor training performances.

The 23-year-old, who described himself as a “scapegoat”, did not travel to London for Sunday’s Premier League match at Arsenal, which United lost 3-1.

The England winger was conspicuous by his absence, having come off the bench in United’s first three matches.

Ten Hag had few experienced attacking options at the Emirates, with debutant Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho and Facundo Pellistri among the substitutes.

The Red Devils appeared set for a 1-1 draw but conceded two stoppage-time goals to slump to a damaging defeat that left them 11th in the Premier League table.

Ten Hag said Sancho was dropped due to sub-par training.

“Jadon, on his performances in training, we did not select him,” the Dutchman said after the game.

“You have to reach a level every day at Manchester United and we can make choices in the front line. So for this game he was not selected.”

However, Sancho hit back later Sunday in a strongly worded social media post.

“Please don’t believe everything you read! I will not allow people saying things that is completely untrue, I have conducted myself in training very well this week,” he posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won’t go into, I’ve been a scapegoat for a long time which isn’t fair!”

He added: “All I want to do is play football with a smile on my face and contribute to my team. I respect all decisions that are made by the coaching staff, I play with fantastic players and (am) grateful to do so which I know every week is a challenge. I will continue to fight for this badge no matter what!”
