Bola Abdullahi, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, shared in a discussion with The PUNCH that officials had blocked their efforts to secure Eagle Square and the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome. Nonetheless, he confirmed that the event will still occur at Rainbow Hotel.
In a message issued on Sunday, Abdullahi mentioned that the party held its ward and state congresses successfully without any problems. He congratulated the newly chosen state leaders and chairpersons, emphasizing that the process demonstrated the party’s commitment to internal democracy and respect for the law.
He further labeled the officials’ actions as a danger to democratic values, indicating that the party had formally requested to utilize Eagle Square but had not yet received a reply. He noted that the ADC had also contacted the management of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome, which had been used earlier by the Peoples Democratic Party for its national convention.
He also remarked, “They were cooperating with us until they abruptly informed us that a cycling championship is going to take place at that location.
“So, that is the predicament we are currently facing. It is part of the agenda. It is a part of the attack on opposition leaders and their political entities.”
