Abba Yusuf, governor of Kano, says the return of Ibrahim Shekarau, a former governor of the state, to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is a major boost for the party.
According to NAN, Yusuf spoke in a statement issued by Mustapha Muhammad, his chief press secretary (CPS).
Yusuf said a date would be fixed, in consultation with the national secretariat of the party, for the formal reception of the former governor into the APC fold.
He added that APC in Kano has continued to witness growing support and consolidation, positioning itself as the most dominant political force in the state.
According to the governor, the party remained battle-ready to win all elective positions in the upcoming elections, citing unity and strategic alignments as key factors driving the party’s confidence.
He further assured party members and supporters that APC leadership is committed to strengthening internal cohesion and expanding its grassroots base across the state.
Yusuf called on party faithful to remain steadfast and continue mobilising support as the party prepares for future political contests.
On Sunday, Shekarau announced his defection to the APC after resigning his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Shekerau served as Kano governor from 2003 to 2011 on the platform of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).
He joined the PDP in 2014 after his former party — ANPP — merged to become the APC.
In 2018, the former Kano governor resigned from the PDP to join the APC.
In May 2022, Shekarau left the APC for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) after months of leadership tussle with Abdullahi Ganduje, former governor of Kano.
