Reality TV star Natacha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, has stirred widespread reactions online after speaking out on what she described as growing discrimination among Nigerians on social media.
According to a report by Punch Newspaper, Tacha made the remarks while reacting to the backlash faced by chess champion Tunde Onakoya over a recent post that generated mixed opinions online. In her statement, she suggested that the level of criticism and negativity seen among Nigerians on social platforms can sometimes rival racial discrimination experienced abroad.
Tacha noted that although she has experienced racism, the way Nigerians treat one another online can be even more intense. She also praised Tunde Onakoya for how he handled the criticism, pointing out that he remained composed despite repeated online attacks.
The controversy began after Onakoya shared a video of himself playing chess in a traditional outfit at a public space near the Louvre Museum, which he described as a symbolic cultural moment. While many praised the gesture, others questioned the claim, leading to heated discussions online.
Reacting further, Tacha criticized what she described as a culture of negativity, stating that some individuals tend to react harshly when others succeed. Her comments have since sparked debates across social media, with many users sharing differing opinions on the issue.
