JUST IN: Members, delegates shun venue of Nafiu Bala’s ADC faction convention

According to a report by Daily Post on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, the venue scheduled for the national convention of a faction of the African Democratic Congress was deserted on Tuesday, with no sign of delegates or party officials.

The faction is led by Nafiu Bala. The convention was expected to hold at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium. However, the facility remained empty at the scheduled time.

A correspondent monitoring the situation reported that there were no visible preparations at the venue. Key sections of the complex, including the velodrome, were locked.

There were also no signs of party members or organisers at the location. The development comes amid a leadership crisis within the ADC. The party is currently divided into factions with competing claims to leadership.

Another faction is led by former Senate President David Mark. Bala’s group had fixed April 21, 2026, for its convention. This came days after it rejected an earlier convention held on April 14 by the rival faction.

The Bala-led group described the earlier gathering as a violation of a subsisting court judgment. He also questioned its legitimacy. According to him, the absence of the Independent National Electoral Commission showed that the event lacked official recognition.

The crisis has continued to deepen as both factions insist they are in charge of the party. The matter is now before the Federal High Court. The case is being handled by Justice Emeka Nwite. The court action followed INEC’s refusal to recognise Bala as acting national chairman.
