Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Ousmane Dembele scored twice as Paris Saint-Germain beat Bayern Munich 5-4 in a breathtaking first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final on Tuesday, the highest-scoring match ever at this stage of the tournament.
The chaos began early at the Parc des Princes. Harry Kane opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Kvaratskhelia levelled with a trademark finish. Joao Neves then headed PSG in front, only for Michael Olise to restore parity in a frantic first half.
PSG regained the lead in stoppage time when Dembele converted from the spot after a handball by Alphonso Davies. The French champions surged further ahead after the break. Kvaratskhelia finished a sweeping move before Dembele surprised Manuel Neuer with a low strike to make it 5-2.
Bayern continued to fight. Dayot Upamecano headed in from a Joshua Kimmich free-kick, and Luis Diaz finished a slick move to cut the deficit to one and leave the tie finely balanced.
The result sets up a gripping return leg at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday, May 6, with a place in the final in Budapest on the line. Luis Enrique will take a slender advantage back to Munich, where PSG famously beat Inter Milan in last season’s final.
