Report: Arsenal Want to Sign £100m Premier League Star Ahead of Manchester United and Manchester City

As reported by Metro on June 4, 2026, Arsenal is thinking about pursuing Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali as Mikel Arteta aims to enhance his team after the club’s success in the Premier League.

The Gunners are anticipated to be busy in the summer transfer market, intending to sign a right-back, a left winger, a striker, and another midfielder. Tonali has surfaced as a candidate as Arsenal looks to improve the quality and depth of their midfield.

Sources suggest that the Italian player was presented to Arsenal during the January transfer window, however, no official talks occurred with Newcastle at that time. Nevertheless, it seems that the scenario has shifted, and Arsenal is now contemplating a possible transfer for the 26-year-old.

Tonali is regarded as a crucial player in Newcastle’s lineup, and the Magpies are thought to have set a valuation nearing £100 million for the midfielder. Even with this substantial price, Arsenal is not the only team keeping an eye on his situation.

Manchester City also has shown interest in acquiring Tonali and may step up their efforts if they do not succeed in obtaining Nottingham Forest player Elliot Anderson. Pep Guardiola’s team recently made an initial offer for Anderson, which was turned down by Forest, who are said to want a fee that could surpass the £105 million that Arsenal spent to acquire Declan Rice in 2023.

Discussions between Manchester City and Nottingham Forest are still in progress, but City is already looking into other possibilities should the negotiations not advance.

Manchester United are another side aiming to enhance their midfield this summer. The Red Devils are expected to make notable changes in the center of the field after Casemiro’s exit, with Manuel Ugarte also being rumored to leave Old Trafford.

A list of potential targets for United includes Anderson, Aurelien Tchouameni, Mateus Fernandes, Adam Wharton, and Carlos Baleba. The club is also pursuing a deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson as part of its reworking strategy.

At the same time, Manchester City faces ambiguity regarding Rodri’s future, as he has been connected to Real Madrid. Bernardo Silva is also anticipated to depart from the Etihad, heightening City’s demand for midfield additions.

Regarding the rumors about his future, Rodri recently stated: “With a World Cup coming up, my responsibility is to remain focused. Any matters concerning my future will wait until the World Cup is over.”
